1. Purpose
This Plagiarism Policy establishes the principles and procedures adopted by the Journal to prevent, detect, and address plagiarism in all submitted and published works. Qurina Scientific Journal (QSJ) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and publishing ethics.
2. Definition of Plagiarism
2.1 Plagiarism is defined as the appropriation of another person’s ideas, processes, results, language, or work without appropriate acknowledgment.
2.2 Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
§ Verbatim copying of another’s published or unpublished work without citation.
§ Close paraphrasing or reproduction of substantial portions of another’s text, figures, tables, or data without proper attribution.
§ Self-plagiarism, including duplicate or redundant publication of an author’s own previously published material without disclosure and permission.
§ Use of unpublished materials (e.g., peer review content or confidential documents) without authorization.
3. Responsibilities of Authors
3.1 Authors must ensure that all submitted manuscripts are their original work and that all sources are properly cited and acknowledged.
3.2 Authors shall disclose if portions of the manuscript have appeared elsewhere in any form, including conference proceedings, preprints, or reports.
3.3 Submissions found to contain plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, will be rejected outright.
4. Detection of Plagiarism
4.1 All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism screening using plagiarism detection software and manual verification.
4.2 The Journal reserves the right to check submissions at any stage of the editorial process and after publication if concerns are raised.
5. Actions in Cases of Plagiarism
5.1 Before Acceptance:
§ Minor overlap (e.g., methods or background): Authors may be asked to revise with proper attribution.
§ Significant overlap or clear plagiarism: The manuscript will be rejected, and the authors’ institutions may be notified.
5.2 After Publication:
§ If plagiarism is confirmed post-publication, the article may be retracted, and a retraction notice will be issued.
§ The authors’ institutions may be informed, and future submissions from the authors may be restricted or declined.
6. Editorial and Publisher’s Role
6.1 The Editorial Board and Publisher are responsible for enforcing this Policy consistently and fairly.
6.2 Decisions regarding plagiarism cases shall be guided by COPE’s Guidelines on Retraction and Misconduct.
6.3 Retractions, corrections, or expressions of concern will be issued where appropriate to maintain the scholarly record.
7. Sanctions
Authors, reviewers, or editors found to have engaged in plagiarism or related misconduct may face sanctions, including but not limited to:
§ Rejection or retraction of the manuscript.
§ Prohibition from future submissions to the Journal for a specified period.
§ Notification of the author’s institution, funding body, or professional association.
